AboutDFIR stickers are a thing! If you’re interested in one, please let us know! Here’s what they look like:
Behind the scenes, I’ve been working on a couple little projects to increase my familiarity with some DFIR subject matter, but it’s also the time of year where I seem to be interviewing more school-age children and they always seem to have time-intensive cases. Further, while I know October was our “Cyber Security Awareness” month, November was a never-ending reminder for me of just how vulnerable children and elderly adults are online. CyberTips from NCMEC continue to rise exponentially. NCMEC handles reports/CyberTips from the public as well as ISP/ESPs of exploitation material online. In 2019, they saw almost 17 million reports. In 2020, this increased to almost 22 million reports! I would bet 2021 was another for record books, unfortunately. We‘re also coming into Electricity and Heat/Gas scam season where dishonest people prey on those necessities to scam elderly adults out of their money. If you have some vulnerable people in your life, reach out and educate. It can be as simple as “hang up and call back on the number on your bill” and you could save someone hundreds to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Last thing, I was reminded that it’s nomination time for the Forensic 4:Cast awards! Feel free to click here to nominate your favorites or most useful resources! This years nomination cycle opened early and closes May 1 of 2022.
Have a good one!
